Whilst settling back into school this half term, we are going to be learning lots of new and exciting things!
In history, we will be learning all about Queen Elizabeth 1 & Queen Victoria. We will be looking at the time line of the monarchy, comparing life from then and now, and investigating their achievements and downfalls as Queens of England. For more information, please click here to see our class knowledge organiser.
In geography, we will be learning all about our local area using fieldwork & observational skills to study geography of our school, grounds & the human/physical features of the surrounding area. We will also use maps & surveys to collate evidence. For more information, please click here to see our class knowledge organiser.
In maths, we will learn all about place value, addition and subtraction.
For English, children will be writing labels and captions for a Tudor outfit and also writing a diary entry as if they were Queen Elizabeth I, when she won the battle against the Spanish Armada!
In science, we are learning all about feeding and exercise. We will also be 'facetiming a farmer' and learning all about where our food comes from!
In our class, we like to keep our room bright, tidy and resourceful, and celebrate each other's work.
Please find below some helpful resources that you may use with your child at home.
These are words that cannot be sounded out phonetically and children need to be able to read and spell off by heart.
These are phonics sound that your child will be learning in school to help them read and write. You could use these sound mats to play games at home such as snap or even have your child look for items around your home that have these sounds in them and ask them to write it down.
This is a technique your child will be learning at school to help them move onto joined up writing as they get older. Each letter stars with a 'flick from the left'.
By the end of year 2, children should know their 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. You could print these to use at home with your child. Likewise, remember to log into your child's TT Rockstars account and practice there!
